Tomorrow inexorably pulls us forward and inevitably there comes a moment in everyone’s life when we have to choose our future profession. Some people rely on their intuition, the life experience of their parents or friends’ recommendations, while others are looking for an answer to the most urgent question of modern consumer society – “how to work little and earn a lot”. So what should you choose – a profession to earn money, a profession for the soul, and is it possible to combine them?

The first thing to know about the future is that if the development will go in the same direction as now, it will be easier than the present, but this is not at all easier. We are at the door of the age of robots, when they will do all the monotonous, routine, boring and hard physical work for us. We should not fear the future, since it is inevitable anyway, and it is better to accept all its oddities. To swim against the current is a proud position, but pointless, as all the same in time the strength will run out and the current of progress will carry you away, but already completely exhausted. As an example, a few years ago there were many people who “in spirit” could not stand touch phones, but now most call them convenient. Male drivers ironically scoff and call videos in which autonomous cars seem to feel very confident in dense urban traffic silly.

The second thing to know is that there are no accurate and unambiguously reliable predictions about what we can expect, much less about the promising professions of the future. Dozens of futurologists in their forecasts often give quite opposite results and do not allow us to make at least a more or less accurate list of promising professions. Nevertheless, everyone agrees that in the near future there will definitely be a demand for IT professions (information technology) and social professions (working with people), as well as many professions that did not exist before.

Third, set goals. Goals are always relevant – past, present, and future. Even the most capable and educated person without a goal is a useless pile of molecules both for himself and for society. Goals are the energy that gives meaning to everything: we go to the store to buy groceries; we cook food because we want to eat; we go to bed to rest; we watch comedy shows because we are funny; we love kittens because they are funny, and so on. Everything we do already has a point, so our future profession is nowhere without it either.

Fourth, be communicative with people you know and strangers. If you cannot or are afraid of mistakes – learn it, because with the departure from the labor market of working professions greatly increases the importance of the ability to communicate. You can already remember many sociable people who have achieved success and personal happiness in life, but you are unlikely to remember many quiet and shy people who have achieved the same.
