APU, located in Oita Prefecture, Beppu City, Japan is part of the famous Ritsumeikan Academy. Currently, approximately 2,300 international students from 82 countries and regions throughout the world currently learn together with around 3,000 Japanese students on APU's multicultural campus. APU offers students a unique opportunity to gain a bachelor or master's degree from a Japanese university without any prior knowledge of the Japanese language. Students with sufficient English (or Japanese) ability are able to enroll into a 4 year Japanese government accredited bachelor degree program studying either in the College of Asia Pacific Studies or the College of International Management. ScholarshipsThere are two types of scholarships for which you can apply: some of them are administered directly by APU like internal scholarships and some of them are administered by outside funding organizations and hence called external scholarships. Please contact the funding organizations for information about these external scholarship opportunities. Find below the details of the internal and external scholarships: Internal Scholarships:APU Graduate Schools offer five different scholarship programs (in the form of 30%, 50%, 65%, 80% and 100% tuition fee reductions). Because APU scholarships are in the form of TUITION FEE REDUCTIONS you do NOT receive financial assistance for airfare to Japan, living expenses, etc. External Scholarships If you are interested in scholarships to assist with living expenses we recommend that you research private (Rotary International). The Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) also offers full scholarship. During the term of the scholarship, monthly allowances of approximately 160,000 yen will be given to postgraduate grantee (amount is subject to change). Application Fee, Admission Fee and Tuition Fees will be exempted. A round-trip airplane ticket between the grantee's home countries and Japan will be also provided (more details). Applications through Recommendations by Embassy of Japan for 2009 Enrolment will be available to Overseas Applicants* for all APU graduate programs. If you are interested in applying to APU on the MEXT Scholarship through recommendation by Embassy, you should submit your application to Japanese Embassy at your home country indicating that your preferred university is APU. Scholarships selection criteriaAPU Scholarship screening is based on an overall assessment of your application, including grades at university, scores on English language and aptitude tests, non-academic experience, research/study plans, and reasons for applying to APU. Even if you are weak in one or more of these areas, you will still be eligible for scholarships if your application is strong overall and you can show a genuine motivation to study at our school. Notification of any scholarships awarded to you will be issued after we receive your complete application to study at APU Graduate Schools and it is screened by our Admissions.
