The Universidade de Lisboa is a public institution designed to produce and diffuse knowledge, culture and science at a higher level. Following an outstanding scientific and cultural tradition, date back to the establishment of the Portuguese University by King D. Dinis in 1290 it was relaunched in 1911. The Universidade de Lisboa is composed by the following units: the Rectorate (central administrative services), eight faculties (Fine Arts, Science, Law, Pharmacy, Letters, Medicine, Dental Medicine, Psychology and Education), Institute of Social Science, and the Social Services. The Universidade de Lisboa also comprises the following institutes: the Institute for Vocational Guidance, the Bacteriological Institute Câmara Pestana, the Geophysical Institute Infante D. Luiz, the Astronomical Observatory of Lisbon, the National Museum of Natural History and the Museum of Science. The Aula Magna, of the Rectorate, is an emblematic space of the city of Lisbon, recognized at national and international level for their scientific, academic, civic and cultural events.
There are seven faculties at the Universidade de Lisboa' campus (Science, Law, Pharmacy, Humanities, Medicine, Dental Medicine, Psychology and Education), two canteens, the Rectorate, the Social Sciences Institute and the Interdisciplinary Center. An efficient public transport network gives easy access to our campus. Other units, such as the Faculty of Fine Arts, the Institutes and Museums are located in downtown Lisbon.
Universidade de Lisboa’ students have access to different kinds of sport activities, such as: swimming, football, badminton, basketball, table tennis, yoga, fitness, core training, step, among others. Numerous cultural activities, supported by the Universidade de Lisboa, also take place within the Campus such as Cultural performances and Scientific events, using the facilities of Aula Magna and conference rooms.

Teaching, science and technology and innovation are central landmarks within the Universidade de Lisboa’ mission. We aim at enhancing our position as a University of reference not only at national, but also at the European level so that its activities and initiatives can have a greater impact on economical and social reality.
