L'Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne accueille et forme dans ses quatorze unités de Formation et de Recherche (U.F.R.) ainsi que dans ses cinq Instituts plus de quarante mille étudiants, aux carrières du droit, de la science politique, de l'économie, de la gestion, des sciences humaines et des arts.

 

Ses cursus professionnalisés (Licences et Masters Professionnels, Magistères et Maîtrises des Sciences et Techniques) participent aux échanges nombreux et approfondis entre l'université et les entreprises : Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne fait ainsi appel, pour ses diplômes, à plus de 1000 intervenants extérieurs tandis que près de dix mille de ses étudiants effectuent chaque année un stage en entreprise.

The Challenge

Now you have the chance to participate in Go Green in the City 2012. The competition consists of three steps which will take part during the first half of 2012. 

Your team should consist of two engineering or business university-level students (2nd to final year). As Schneider Electric is looking to integrate women’s views and perspectives on how to shape tomorrow’s green initiatives, each team should have at least one woman.

Team members must study at a university in Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Poland, Russia, Turkey, or the USA. Team-mates must attend a university in the same country, although they do not have to be of the same nationality. Each team member can only participate in one team and each team presents one idea. 

Step 1: Application – Pair up with a team-mate to apply. Show us a creative presentation of your idea for intelligent energy solutions in the city. 

Step 2: Participation – The 100 best teams will be asked to create a synopsis of a business case for their idea with the help of a mentor from Schneider Electric. These teams are guaranteed interviews for internships and exposure to job opportunities.

Step 3: The Final – The 25 best teams will be invited to the city of light, Paris, in June 2012 to make their final presentations in front of a VIP panel of judges. The winning team will travel the world, stopping at Schneider Electric offices on the way, and be offered a job.

Never going to happen? Oh yes it is! Join the "Blind Applying" campaign and land yourself one of 18 international internships.

Blind Applying: One application, 18 internships, an adventure from start to finish.

We've had blind dates and blind booking – now it's time for "Blind Applying": 18 companies, 18 internships, 18 locations and 18 task areas. They are united in a secret: the combination of everything. This is how a group of well-known companies are beginning their first joint internship campaign for students from all over the world.

This, for you, means 18 opportunities from a single application. Each participating company is offering an internship to students. Not only that, but they will also subsidize travel costs and rent.

What do we expect from you in exchange? A sense of adventure to match the slogan used by this joint campaign: "Jump into a career adventure you will never forget." Got any plans from April to June 2014?

Our internships are full of surprises

In which company, working in which field and where exactly you will end up as an intern will remain our secret until you are invited for an interview in December. But we can reveal a few of the locations where you might end up. How about Shanghai, Sydney, Paris, Berlin, London, Saragossa or Munich? Other offers in Europe, Asia and the USA are also waiting for you. Just about every industry and task area is in on the action, from the automobile, consultancy, IT, media, telecommunications, auditing, and insurance industries to pharmaceuticals, chemistry and energy, to name just a few.  Alongside Deutsche Telekom, which initiated the pilot project, Daimler, Bayer, Allianz, Merck, Fresenius, ThyssenKrupp, Deutsche Post/DHL and Bertelsmann are each offering one of the sought-after internships.

But don't assume you can tell what the internship will involve based just on the industry it's in. "With Blind Applying, the focus is on one thing – the student", explains Frank Staffler, Head of HR Marketing at Deutsche Telekom. "With this joint campaign we simply want to do the students a favor.”  In fact, the 18 internships are by no means the only aspect of Blind Applying. All of the students involved are guaranteed one thing – a response with further possible career opportunities.

Gebr. Heinemann is also excited about the new recruiting approaches. „We wanted to create different ways of searching for a career start: more fun and with a little bit of an adventurous spirit. Through Blind Applying students have the possibility to discover careers that they might not have had in mind – every company has something special to offer. We are delighted to work with the other companies and are looking forward to the next few weeks.” says Katharina Oberrecht, Teamlead Recruiting & HR Marketing at Gebr. Heinemann.

We'll take up your job hunt for you

"More than an internship" – Blind Applying did not come up with this motto by chance: participants can take away much more from the campaign than one of the mysterious internships. By taking part in the campaign, 18 companies receive your resume directly and will also check to see if there are other career opportunities in the company for you. At the start of the new year, you will receive all of the offers that apply to you, in convenient collated form by e-mail. These offers may include internships, thesis opportunities or entry-level jobs on completion of your studies. Job hunting has never been so easy and convenient. And neither has making direct contact with 18 top employers in one go.

The application – and what next?

The application process is very simple: register at www.blindapplying.com between September 24 and November 17 and upload your resume in English. Don't bother with time-consuming phrases – there's no need for a cover letter. We select the compatible candidates individually for each internship, based on areas of interest and qualifications.

And then? The secret will be revealed. Each company will invite three candidates for an interview. If you are convincing to the last, then you will be one of the 18 students selected to start your internship adventure from April 2014. Congratulations!

Incidentally, the idea behind "Blind Applying" came from a current student: Sabine Burmeister is a cooperative master's degree student in the HR Marketing department at Deutsche Telekom, and is already crossing her fingers for her fellow students. "Guys, I'm telling you, you've got to apply. Cool cities, cool jobs, cool companies, one quick and easy application – what more could you wish for?"

So, you’re too young or think you don’t know enough about EU politics to vote… But who says you can’t still have your say?

 

I certainly wouldn’t dare. In fact, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) would love to hear from you.  Having members in day-to-day touch with the people of Europe, we cherish the opinions and ideas of all citizens, young and old. But it may seem hard for students in the distant corners of the Union to have their say on Europe’s future. Brussels is just so far away!

 

So we have organised the most exciting, yet instructive, field trip ever … all the way to the EU’s capital … where 16- and 17-year-olds from all over Europe can meet like-minded students, talk to political leaders and exchange views.

It could be you, if your school is selected to take part in the ‘Your Europe, Your Say’ event, hosted by the EESC from 26-28 March 2014. But first you have to convince your teacher to apply via the online registration form before the closing date on 30 November (midnight Brussels time).  

One school from each of the 28 Member States will be picked at random and if yours is chosen, you might be one of the three lucky students who, together with their teacher, will be shown around Brussels, the EU district and sights. But that’s not all.

 

European Parliament elections are coming up in 2014. Under the campaign slogan ‘act, react, impact’, citizens are being encouraged to choose who will represent them for the next five-year term. It’s a big deal for Europe, but most of you probably think, “Why should I care … I’m not old enough to vote, anyway?”

Well, you should care because decisions made in the EU affect you, your friends, your parents and, yes, your school.  And we think you should have your say. So in Brussels, we will organise a real-life debate, where you will have to negotiate and eventually agree on a resolution that could leave a lasting impression on Europe.

The lack of data about what skills will be needed in the future has been a long-standing concern in Europe. Anticipation of labour market skill needs has been considered a top priority by the EU, as well as by the social partners since 2004, and the crisis has underlined the importance of this challenge. Skill supply and demand forecasts now provide comprehensive information on the future labour market.

This session will explore recent methods, approaches and tools that facilitate effective monitoring and anticipation of skill needs, in order to enable all labour market actors – from policy-makers and the social partners to employees, employers, students and parents – to take informed decisions and evidence-based action.

11:35 - 13:00 | Session 2: Matching people’s skills and job opportunities – equipping people with the skills that are relevant to the labour market

Improving skills is a key element in securing a lasting European economic recovery and enabling the EU to respond to challenges such as the worldwide increase in the quality of education and supply of skills, ageing and the low-carbon economy.

However, people need the "right" skills to enter and stay in the labour market. Over-qualification and not having the right qualifications are very different things. Today, the mismatch between the skills available and labour market needs affects all Member States, albeit to varying degrees. In 2012, despite rising joblessness and youth unemployment reaching 23% across Europe, there were over 2 million unfilled job vacancies in the EU.

This part of the event will focus on the current reforms in curricula aimed at providing the "right" skills (including basic skills, transversal skills, STEM, entrepreneurial skills, digital competencies). Attention will be given to the need to increase synergies between the worlds of education and work.

Research shows the benefits that VET (vocational education and training) brings to individuals and society as a whole, as well as to organisations. For example, the wellbeing and positive work environment generated through VET influences behaviour at work and job satisfaction and can lead to higher productivity and higher wages. VET is also seen as a way of promoting social inclusion, integrating young or disadvantaged people into the labour market. CEDEFOP data shows that, VET's lack of parity of esteem compared to general education is not justified, and that at the medium level, VET graduates are more successful than general education candidates in finding employment.

The value of work-based learning – and notably of the dual systems – in smoothing the transition between education and work and increasing competitiveness is also widely acknowledged.

This session will focus on recent developments regarding apprenticeships and training, as well as on challenges, at the national level, as regards attractiveness and VET quality.

The mismatch between skill needs and supply also has a geographic component: skill shortages and bottlenecks coexist in areas of extreme unemployment.

This session will look into the existing tools for transparency and comparability of skills, as well as the validation and recognition of informal and non-formal learning. Regarding mobility, the focus will be on the reform of EURES, which should soon become a fully-fledged European placement and recruitment tool, providing users instantly with  clear geographical mapping of job offers.

The obstacles to the free movement of workers within the EU will be dealt with in the next LMO event, in February 2014.

Seit 2007 veranstaltet die Fraport AG gemeinsam mit Gebr. Heinemann sowie der Bundesagentur für Arbeit die Airport Ausbildungsmesse. Somit können Unternehmen, Institutionen und Behörden, die am Airport ausbilden, einen Tag lang den Flughafen Frankfurt als Ausbildungsstandort erlebbar machen.

Die Airport-Ausbildungsmesse bietet allen interessierten Schülerinnen und Schülern einen Einblick zum Thema Ausbildung und duales Studium am Frankfurter Flughafen.
